Scantrust: Product QR Codes & SaaS Solutions

The Story:

What if we can instantly verify any product in the world? This is my story with Scantrust.

👨‍🎨 Founding Designer

Everyone deserves to know if the product they buy is genuine — this simple, powerful idea sparked the birth of Scantrust. The core problem Scantrust set out to solve was the global issue of counterfeit products.

In 2014, I met the founders in a Shanghai co-working space and something clicked. I joined as the founding designer, turning their idea into tangible interfaces and workflows. Since then I’ve participated in every aspect of Scantrust’s product development and company growth.

🧗 The Hustle & The Growth

Right from the get-go, I became the glue between teams—sales, engineers, marketers—bridging the technical and non-technical through my carefully prepared design specs and Q&A meetings. I quickly became a key connector across almost everyone in the company.

My role in building this global startup was beyond design — it meant navigating timezone chaos, translating business needs into design, and stepping up as an unofficial product manager to keep every mission moving forward.

Within the company, I ran the company-wide global meeting every other week from 2015 to 2019. Within the product team, my leadership developed significantly as I:

  • Always took initiative to draft documents that aimed to organize, guide, and improve the overall efficiency of cross-functional collaboration across iOS, Android, Web, QA, and Core Tech teams.
  • Mentored 3+ junior product designers and 7+ interns over the years.
🌏 From Prototypes to Global Impact

When a Fortune 500 client adopted us as a registered supplier, it validated our sleepless nights. It was deeply fulfilling to witness my designs and efforts evolve from prototypes and demos into impactful real-world products.

Today, Scantrust connects billions of products and empowers millions to shop and consume safely. For me, it’s proof that small teams—through persistence and collaboration—can build solutions that bring positive changes to people's lives.

Mountain Landscape Background

The Challenge:

Big Picture POV:

There was no playbook for designing a brand-new platform. Everything had to be built from scratch. I had to lean heavily on my ability to learn fast and adapt on the fly.

On the Ground POV:

The challenges evolved as the company grew.

  • Designing complex systems for B2B2C and B2P (Professionals with domain-specific knowledge).
  • Moving fast—trusting intuition, testing features, scrapping what didn’t work, and iterating quickly.
  • Demos, demos, demos! Lots of demos :)

The Platform:

The Scantrust platform is designed to provide a complete QR code solution for global brands.

To understand my work at Scantrust, one must first understand the platform’s 3 fundamental pillars that I’ve contributed to: Core Technology, Digital Products, and Physical Products.

1. Core Technology

While I’m not directly part of the Core Tech team, I worked closely with them in the early years to translate this complex, patented machine learning anti-counterfeit technology into something tangible and understandable for real-world users who are brand owners, business managers, and consumers.

My involvement in Core Tech includes:

2. Digital Products

I led the end-to-end UI and UX design for the entire Scantrust web and mobile systems, including the Customer Login Portal (B2B), white-label software, windows application for industrial use, and the core digital products/offering listed below:

3. Physical Products

Scantrust’s physical products are the printed Secure QR codes, which are essential catalysts connecting tangible goods to Scantrust's digital platform, enabling a range of solutions from authentication and traceability to compliance and customer engagement.

I designed a wide range of Security Labels, i.e. Anti-Counterfeit Labels, which feature technologies such as the ScanTrust Secure QR codes to prevent fakes and ensure product integrity.

Anti-counterfeit Technologies

I’ve experience designing and working with these Anti-counterfeit Technologies:

  1. Holograms
  2. Tamper-evident features (“void”, self-destructing)
  3. Special inks and printing (heat, UV, infrared)
  4. Serialized barcodes or QR codes (tracking, tracing, individual product authentication)
  5. RFID/NFC tags/chips
  6. Micro-text or nano-text
State-of-the-art Security Labels

The Impact:

Nowadays, Scantrust connects billions of products. I’m proud to share that millions of people have interacted with the digital and physical designs I made or contributed to.
